Welcome!
Hi there! I'm Mel. Thanks for visiting.
MJS Equine (formerly Zen Equestrienne) is the result of many years work + a blending of my two main passions: horses + photography. First + foremost I am someone that loves to learn, I am an animal behavior nerd, a mother, a photographer, a writer, + a nature lover.
Throughout my career, I've had the chance to work in many areas of the equine industry, from performing + competing to grooming, training, coaching, media, marketing, retail, saddle fitting, + equine assisted therapy + more.
With nearly three decades of experience in both the equine industry + in captive animal welfare, management, + training, my career has spanned multiple disciplines + species. My background as a zookeeper has given me a unique perspective + a specialised set of skills for understanding + working with horses. The knowledge + experience gained from both fields have shaped my approach to equine care + training.
MJS Equine is more than just a business to me; it's a mindset focused on our roles + responsibilities as partners + caregivers. It's about building a relationship with horses through respectful, calm, clear, + consistent communication as I believe that the well-being of our horses is closely connected to our own emotional state + interpersonal skills.
Thanks again for stopping by + please take a moment to check out my equine photography offerings also.
Best Regards,
Mel :)
